Stock the kitchen with nutritious options rich in protein, vitamin C, and vitamin D. Encourage them to take it easy during the initial recovery period and avoid strenuous activities until their dentist says it&#8217;s safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Help them arrange transportation to and from appointments if sedation was used or if they aren&#8217;t comfortable driving. Having someone nearby during the first part of recovery can also provide reassurance and assistance with everyday tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Help With Oral Hygiene<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keeping the mouth clean is important for healing, but the surgical area may require special care. Your parent should follow the dental team&#8217;s instructions regarding brushing, flossing, rinsing, and cleaning around the implant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don&#8217;t encourage them to scrub or disturb the surgical site. If they&#8217;re unsure how to clean around the implant, contact the dental office for specific guidance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Watch for Warning Signs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some discomfort and swelling can be expected after implant surgery, but certain symptoms should be reported to the dental office. Contact the dentist if your parent develops severe or worsening pain, significant swelling, persistent bleeding, fever, or other concerning symptoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If they experience difficulty breathing or swallowing, get them to an emergency room stat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every patient&#8217;s recovery is different, and older adults may have individual health considerations that affect healing.
